We (Leah Katherine Saal and my
seven-year-old son, Luukas, and Mike the Tiger) arrived in Santiago
Thursday afternoon and spent time exploring different parts of the city based on
the owners’ fabulous recommendations. I am so glad they are used to Gringas
like us, because they were able to tell us where to get yummy food and a tour
to take. We’ve filled the last couple of days being touristas, which has been
very good as we are so excited to meet our families and needed the
distractions. Mike was especially glad to get some agua sin gas, which is plain old water in fancy bottle. Agua con gas tickles his nose....
Luukas is especially excited to arrive
at Señor Ricardo and Señora Verónica’s today.
What are the kids’ names again? What’s the mom’s name again? What’s the
dad’s name again? Whose class will I be in again? We’re sharing a room, Mom?
They have a dog? What’s the dog’s name? What kind of rodent pet do they have?
Is it a hamster? Is it a Guinea a pig? Is it a RAT?! What’s it’s name? Where do
they keep it?
I had questions of my own for Señora
Verónica, and she has been nothing but gracious. Can we get you anything from
the States? How about cinnamon candies?
This is a silly question, but do you have a curling iron? It is not a silly question—it is a woman question—no, we only have a
flat iron. What do the kids like? Oh,
anything, but you don’t need to bring a thing! Where will Luukas and I
sleep—he’s been wondering. You will share
a room together. How should I get Luukas a uniform? We will get you one when you arrive so it is the right size!
We cannot wait to go to Concepción and
already feel lucky to have such an open and kind family!
